Friday, 21 July 2017

The University of St. Gallen has created a seal of approval called “Spin-Off Universität St. Gallen” as part of its push to promote entrepreneurship [1]. The topic of entrepreneurship promotion is a central topic at the University because spin-offs create jobs that are essential to the economic development of Switzerland [2]. The University would also like to better support these companies in their external impact [3].

In order to obtain the label, it is necessary that at least one of founders is studying, doing research, or working at the University.  Start-ups and spin-offs that have been active for at least 12 months are able to apply for this seal [1].

In addition, successful spin-offs will receive assistance and support from the University, including office premises, coaching and mentoring services, and participating in workshops and networking events [1]. With this seal, the University hopes to achieve a better understanding of the entrepreneurial value creation by the University. There are already 99 companies on the initial list to receive the seal of approval [2].
